The movie’s been out for weeks now and if you get the chance to see it, you should, or at least rent the DVD when it is released. If you liked Gladiator and Troy..you will love this movie even more!
For those of you not familiar with 300, it is a Warner Bros. Picture based on the epic graphic novel by Frank Miller. 300 is a ferocious retelling of the ancient Battle of Thermopylae in which King Leonidas (Gerard Butler) and 300 Spartans fought to the death against Xerxes and his massive Persian army. Facing insurmountable odds, their valor and sacrifice inspire all of Greece to unite. It has gotten mixed reviews, mainly for its violence..it is a gore fest, but .. isn’t any war? At least this is a good gore fest.
The movie is getting some negative social commentary, mainly from some folks in the Middle East that feel it misrepresents the Persian culture, its people, their motives and actions, thereby placing all people of Persian descent in a bad light. Geez..can we ease up a little? Really. Sorry folks, but when it comes to entertainment, and good guys versus bad, real or unreal; I tend to not factor in political correctness or social commentary. It is entertainment people, not a documentary! Take a chill pill. That, to me, would be like trying to concern myself with the plight of the roadrunner and trying to sympathize and understand the true motives and good qualities behind his cunning predator, Wiley Coyote, who may get a bad rep. Pointless, really.
The movie starts out a little slow, so if you go, hold your opinon until the first battle scenes take place. It is an awesome movie. It keeps you on the edge of your seat. It stars Scottish born, Gerard Butler. A hunk in real life if I ever saw one. I must say, in the movie, he doesn’t look as hot as his press photos. Something about his face in the movies doesn’t look quite right… I don’t know..too much make up maybe?

Maybe it’s the teeth. His teeth in the movie, look a little too long to me.. you can’t help but to notice them .
Maybe it’s because, his mouth is always open and he’s constantly gritting them and yelling. Oh well, after a while you won’t even notice he has teeth. The bod and the bods of his fellow Spartans…omg!

Just imagine three hundred, bulked and buffed Spartans, all lined up together, ready for battle, male testosterone soaring, all shouting hoo-ra, bare chested, and dripping and glistening with sweat..
and they all…and I mean ALL (300), sport perfect six pack abs. It’s pure art. I don’t even know how the casting director could find that many men, young and old alike, with such perfect bodies. Ladies, this is where it ceases to be a guy flick and truly becomes some serious female entertainment.
The men won’t be too disapointed either. Butler’s counter part is played by the beautiful actress, Lena Headey as Queen Gorgo, Queen of the Spartans. But for the guys..it is not about the bods, no real nudity, except for a couple of quick scenes, and for that matter, no lewd or foul language, that I can recall..it’s all about the battle..and this is one majorly kick ass flick.
300 Spartans faced over a million Persians that day….and a few lived to tell about it. Imagine those odds! With bodies like that….it’s no wonder they won!…sigh…and pass the popcorn, please.!
That battle is the most important event in Western history.
You and I are citizens of Rome, and Rome is the melding of ancient Greece and the Judeo-Christian ethic.
The Spartans were so fierce in that battle that Xerxes vowed never again to fight Greeks on land.
Had the Spartans not fought like they did, Greece would have become a Persian state, and Rome would not have flowered. The Mediterranean would have become a Persian lake.
Think of Western Europe and North America as being descendants of Persia and not of Rome. I think we’re glad that Sparta saved us.
I did not see the movie.
